Sino-Zimbabwe Cement Company plans upgrade project

Revamping operations in Zimbabwe

Sino-Zimbabwe Cement Company (SZCC) has informed local media of plans to carry out refurbishment at its plant. The upgrade work will include the installation of a new cement mill and grate cooler, in addition to placing increasing emphasis on automation systems. SZCC hopes that the revamp will stand the company in good stead for the future, when it predicts that an increase in construction projects will drive up cement demand in the country. The cement manufacturer is also enhancing measures to mitigate its environmental impact and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. This includes replacing its ESP system with new bag filters.

Quality assurance in Nigeria

Elsewhere in Africa, Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has assured the building industry that it will stabilise cement prices whilst maintaining a high level of quality. Knut Ulvmoen, Dangote Group Executive Director – Sales and Marketing, made the assurances at a workshop for block makers in Abuja, which was organised by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and sponsored by Dangote Cement. Whilst there, Knut offered the company’s support to block moulders to help in their efforts to conform to national standards, thereby preventing the production of substandard blocks that could have a potentially negative impact on buildings.
