Cement news highlights: 3 – 7 November

Carbon emissions

• Lafarge Tarmac has committed to the Infrastructure Carbon Review, which aims to lower carbon emissions from UK infrastructure projects.
• As part of the new 2014 – 20 National Plan to Cope With Climate Change, the Chinese government will limit carbon dioxide emissions from the steel and cement industries.
• The Global CCS Institute has released a new report entitled ‘The Global Status of CCS: 2014’.
• The IPCC’s Synthesis Report has found that the effects of climate change can be limited if stringent action is taken, and that global economic growth will not be strongly affected by mitigation measures.

Health and safety

• MPA hosts Health & Safety Conference and Awards 2014. The theme of this year’s event was “Reducing Harm through Leadership & Workforce Engagement”.
• Elaina Harvey, protective clothing and Nomex^® specialist at DuPont, offers expert guidance on heat and flame protective clothing.
• Hope Construction Materials recognised for impressive health and safety performance.
