New cement plant begins commercial operations in Angola

According to reports, Fábrica de Cimento do Kwanza Sul (FCKS) is ready to begin commercial operations after completing six months of tests. The plant, located in Kwanza Sul, Angola, underwent a four-year construction phase at a cost of around US$600 million, funded by Samsung Corp of South Korea. The area in which it is based is rich in raw materials and is said to have sufficient resources to supply the cement plant for the next 100 years.

The media report that the completed plant processes 4200 tpd of clinker, resulting in a daily cement capacity of 4500 t, equivalent to 1.5 million tpa. Company director Tembua Mucazo Roberto is quoted as saying that the plant serves 150 trucks per day from all over the country.

World Cement reported in February that the government of Angola was said to be considering a restriction on imports this year to curb overcapacity and to better regulate the market.
