UniCem, the United Cement Company of Nigeria, is holding a ground-breaking ceremony on 2nd September for the new 2.5 million t cement production line in Akamkpa, Nigeria. The company currently operates a 2.5 million t cement plant in Mfamosing, also in Akamkpa and produces CEM II 32.5 R and CEM II 42.5 N. President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to attend the ceremony.

The new line, which will double the cement company’s production capacity and bring it to third place in the Nigerian cement industry, is reportedly scheduled to commence production by 2016. The line is receiving an investment of some N84 billion – considerably more than the N46.2 billion spent on the Mfamosing plant, which was completed in 2009.
