At the end of May, the Municipal Government of Juarez, Mexico, announced that the ‘Dirección de Limpia’ had launched a programme that would see old tyres exchanged for bags of cement. The Cementos de Chihuahua plant is reportedly giving one bag of cement for 25 tyres, irrespective of their size.
The cement will benefit neighbourhood groups, schools and organisations with building projects. The scheme will also help to clear up the local area while providing the cement plant with an alternative fuel source.
According to local press, so far 23 925 tyres have been exchanged for 957 bags of cement.
DNV GL will work alongside project partner Parsons Brinckerhoff to run a series of workshops across eight industry sectors, including cement, to develop Industrial Decarbonisation Roadmaps.
Cemex Mexico has received awards under the Greenhouse Gas Effect Programme for its coprocessing system and the reduction and management of GHG emissions.
