Hanson UK extends supply to Hinkley Point

Hanson UK has extended its involvement with EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C project to construct the first of a new generation of nuclear power plants in the UK. The new work includes the supply of material for roads construction, as well as supporting the construction of new accommodation campuses.

Under a contract with Keir BAM, Hanson will supply 40 000 t of cement bound granular material and 0.1 million t of asphalt for road construction. Keir BAM are responsible for initial site works at the Hinkley Point C side, including the excavation, earthworks, and terracing structure, as well as a network of access roads.

Meanwhile, under a separate contract with Laing O’Rourke, Hanson will supply building materials for the construction of the campuses being built to house up 1500 construction workers. Additional supply packages have also been agreed with the Bylor Joint Venture between Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke, which is responsible for the construction of the reactor building.

The company will supply the contractors with products from two of its cement plants, four quarries, three asphalt plants, a marine dredger, and a Regan ground granulated blastfurnace slag site.
