Hanson has completed the first phase of a major upgrade at its Dagenham aggregates depot and wharf on the River Thames in London.

Capable of processing 500 tph of marine-dredged sand and gravel, the new screening and washing plant was designed and supplied by DUO. It was also refined by Hanson’s project management team, in order to enhance maintenance and production efficiencies, as well as safety. The plant has also been future-proofed, with the possibility to cater for potential increased capacity.

The upgrade is part of a three phase investment programme at the plant, which receives around 1.2 million tpy of marine dredged sand and gravel. In addition, the plant receives 800 000 tpy of aggregates.

“There were some massive challenges to overcome to get the new plant up and running,” said Steve Chidgey. “It involved close co-operation between the management team, contractors, and staff and was completed without any accidents.”
