The US Department of Labor will take the time to review an MSHA rule on workplace examinations. The outreach was originally scheduled to begin in March, according to Patricia Silvey, MSHA deputy assistant secretary of operations, but will now proceed at an appropriate time.

The rule was published in the Federal Register on 23 January, and set to go into effect on 23 May. As currently written, the rule requires examinations before work begins in a work area, amongst other increased documentation.

The NSSGA, which has previously voiced its concerns over the rule, is pleased that the Labor Department will take time to review it.
