Itacamba has just received the Sustainability Seal from the Federation of Private Entrepreneurs of Santa Cruz (FEPSC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The award was given after an exhaustive evaluation by the Sustainability Seal's technical office, which evidenced the company's good practices of contributing to the environment and implementing an energy efficiency project regarding the Yacuses plant's cement grinding.

With this award, Itacamba has become the first cement company in Bolivia to receive this type of recognition. According to Oscar Mario Justiniano, president of the FEPSC, this award “promotes a sustainable energy transition in the country through the identification and recognition of companies who are investing resources in projects that mitigate the effects of climate change.”

Alongside Itacamba, there are seven other Bolivian companies that have obtained this recognition of the Sustainability Seal, demonstrating their business efficiency with respect to SDG 7 – Affordable and Non-Polluting Energy.

In an event held in the company's offices, Itacamba received the recognition in its second version. “The energy efficiency project implemented in our cement mill will allow us to reduce our electricity consumption by more than 720 000 kWh per year, allowing us to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Marcelo Morales, general manager of Itacamba, during the reception of the seal.

Morales expressed his gratitude to the two organisations who promote the recognition of initiatives that simultaneously prioritise and respect the planet, environment and the communities who live in the areas where work is carried out, whilst allowing companies to advance and grow. “Itacamba is developing its own 2030 Roadmap focused on seven pillars, establishing concrete actions to guarantee sustainability in the industry. These include: ethics, health and safety; energy and climate change; operational efficiency, environment and nature; circular economy and social responsibility”, he assured.

In addition to this project at the plant, Itacamba has been implementing a robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme for more than a decade, which has benefited more than 40 000 people. This has involved at least 100 projects related to health, education, economic dynamism and infrastructure for social development, mainly in the towns of the Germán Busch province, where its industrial plant is located.
