Four Cemex cement plants have achieved US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR certification for 2017, according to a company press release. The Brooksville, Miami, Clinchfield, and Victorville plants achieved the certification by ranking in the top 25% of similar US facilities for energy conservation.
“These plants follow initiatives each day to ensure they operation with sustainability in mind and lead the way in our industry,” said Dr Hugo Bollo, Executive Vice President – Cement Operations and Technology for Cemex USA.
The Clinchfield plant has now achieved ENERGY STAR ratings for the 11th year running, Miami has be certified for the seventh consecutive year, and the Victorville cement plant received the status for the sixth straight year. This year was the fifth time Brooksville had earned ENERGY STAR accreditation.
Overall, carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of cementitious product at Cemex plants have dropped 20% since 1990.
