Cemex Mexico has contributed to the restoration of the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway, the main export-import route between Mexico and the United States.
The Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway connects Mexico with the state of Texas, and 52% of Mexico’s imports and exports move along this highway, making it one of the main trade-routes across the Mexican and US border.
As such, its repair required extremely resistant and durable construction materials, in order to guarantee road safety. Cemex Mexico supplied 98 000 m3 of hydraulic cement to restore an approximately 9.75 mile stretch of the highway.
Cemex’s hydraulic concrete enables vehicles to travel more safely, by providing a flat, high stiffness-bearing surface that lasts the entire service life of the product. This concrete not only maintains stillness over time, but also supports higher volumes of traffic and loads. Moreover, concrete paving features long durability and requires minimum maintenance.
Cemex Mexico solved the challenge of paving the road without stopping traffic using different work shifts to minimize the potential effect on the crowded highway. The project directly employees more than 100 people and demanded the transportation of more than 30 000 t cement.
