USGS releases cement statistics for September 2014

The latest USGS report provides monthly data on the shipments of cement to final customers and the production of clinker in the US from January 2013 through September 2014. Data on the imports of cement and clinker for September 2014 and the year through September is also provided.

In September 2014, total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico were 9 million t, up by nearly 14% from the level recorded in September 2013. Shipments for the year through September were 66.3 million t, an increase of almost 8% from the same period in 2013. The leading Portland cement producing States in September were (in descending order) Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan, and Florida; these accounted for around 42% of the total output. The leading consuming States were (in descending order) Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio. They received about 36% of the September shipments.

Clinker production totalled 6.9 million t in September 2014, up by nearly 8% from the output in September 2013.Production for the year through September totalled 54.6 million t, an increase of around 6%. The leading clinker producing States in September were (in descending order) Texas, Missouri, California, Pennsylvania, and Florida, and these accounted for approximately 46% of total output.

Masonry cement shipments reached 222 000 t in September 2014, rising by almost 15% compared to September 2013. Shipments for the year through September totalled 1.72 million t, up by about 8%. The leading masonry cement-consuming States were (in descending order) Florida, Texas, California, Tennessee, and Georgia, and these received nearly 51% of September’s shipments.

In September 2014, imports of cement and clinker reached 695 000 t, 23% higher than those in September 2013. Imports for the year through September totalled 6.13 million t, up by 15.5% from the same period in 2013.
