Molins introduces Susterra, a new range that groups together the company's products with sustainable attributes, underscoring the company's ongoing commitment to social development and improving people's quality of life through construction solutions.
This new product range is a significant milestone for the company, helping not only Molins to achieve its goals but also enabling its entire value chain to meet their sustainability objectives.
Susterra groups the company's solutions that promote the circular economy by offering a second life to materials, using alternative fuels, and incorporating recycled materials in their manufacturing. It focuses on reducing CO2 emissions by prioritising energy efficiency and the use of renewable electricity. Additionally, it fosters safe working environments by promoting solutions that minimise emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), thereby improving health and safety in the workplace.
Susterra solutions include cements with CO2 emission reductions of over 20% compared to the CEM I type manufactured in 2020, as well as concretes with emission reductions of over 25% compared to cement-based products made with the same cement. Susterra also encompasses mortars and pavements with more than 2.5% recycled raw materials, materials and fuels made from 100% recycled sources such as rubber granules or steel aggregates, urban furniture containing 8% recycled aggregates, and cement-based products certified with the EMICODE EC1 PLUS label for very low VOC emissions.
According to Carlos Martínez, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer of Molins, “In a further step towards achieving our objectives, we are proud to present Susterra, the new range in Molins’ portfolio that groups and distinguishes solutions with sustainable attributes. These will not only help us meet the goals we have set as a company, but also enable our value chain to achieve their sustainability objectives.” Martínez also highlights the importance of launching this range to promote a more sustainable sector: “By providing Susterra solutions, Molins helps reduce the carbon footprint of our clients. We will continue to work on improving and expanding the Susterra range, thereby contributing more and more to the decarbonisation and circularity of the entire sector.”
With Susterra, Molins materialises its commitment to circularity in industrial processes, using up to 55% of thermal energy from alternative sources to fossil fuels. This is achieved through the energy recovery of solid recovered fuels (SRF) and end-of-life tires (ELT). Additionally, the focus on circularity allows for reduced use of natural raw materials by incorporating materials from the recovery of construction and demolition waste, as well as steel aggregates and rubber granules, into the manufacturing processes.
New corporate identity
The company has recently announced that is leaving behind its commercial brands Cementos Molins, Cementos Molins Industrial, Promsa, Propamsa, Precon, and Pretersa-Prenavisa, and launching its new corporate identity with the aim of consolidating itself as a global leader in innovative and sustainable construction solutions. The slogan 'building the present, driving the future' underscores its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Molins has introduced six new business areas: 'Cement', 'Concrete and Aggregates', 'Circular Economy', 'Construction Solutions', 'Prefabricated Solutions', and 'Urban Landscape' to facilitate the identification of its businesses. The change in visual identity was implemented last 17 May in all Molins businesses in Spain.
