Essroc’s Nazareth plant in Pennsylvania has been awarded ENERGY STAR certification in recognition of the fact that the facility performs in the top 25% of similar facilities across the US and meets the US Environmental Protection Agency’s energy efficiency performance levels.
The certification recognises the cement plant’s improvement in its energy performance, achieved through cost-effective improvements to its plants such as meters, LED and low voltage lighting, timers and sensors.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s industrial facilities is critical to protecting our environment,” said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the plant floor to the board room, organisations are leading the way by making their facilities more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
In order to meet its targeted energy efficiency improvements, the Nazareth plant established a local energy team to discuss actions to be implemented to lower energy consumption, established an action plan and reviewed progress of those actions being implemented.
“Energy reduction is the most important part of the programme, the certification is the cherry on the top of the cake,” said Jean-Paul Morel, Essroc’s Chief Electrical Engineer.
