The Geocycle co-processing plants located in Colima and Veracruz received the ‘Environmental Excellence 2017’ award given by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) through the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA), during a ceremony held in La Calera.
The cetrifivate is the highest recognition granted by PROFEPA to companies that demonstrate continuous improvement in their ecological performance, a strong commitment to environmental preservation, and unwavering social responsibility with their surroundings.
Guillermo Haro Belchez, Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection, presented the award to Miguel Ladron de Guevara, Director of Geocycle Mexico, which is a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim group.
"At Geocycle Mexico we have an ongoing commitment to sustainable development, not only with our co-processing solution for industrial waste management, but also in our daily operations. We are aligned to a global vision, with strict levels to reduce and control our carbon footprint, and proud to say that as a company we are contributing to a better future," said Miguel Ladron de Guevara.
The evaluation criteria established by PROFEPA to audit the operations of Geocycle plants in Colima and Veracruz included assessment of processes and strategies aimed at protecting and preserving the environment as well as goals to increase eco-efficiency and environmental performance while reducing risk.
This recognition symbolises the highest level of environmental performance that can be achieved by companies in Mexico. It considers exemplary actions and is above all other clean industry certifications granted by the Mexican authorities.
With this program, the Mexican government is promoting environmental leadership and the adoption of performance levels comparable to international standards. It promotes implementation of state-of-the-art sustainable practices for companies to improve social responsibility in the communities where they operate.
The Geocycle plants in Mexico use the latest waste disposal technologies to produce an alternative fuel, which is used in co-processing for the production of cement.
