Personnel acquisitions bring new experience and skillsets that hope to drive the company's sustainability targets forward.
Prometheus Technologies, a cement technology company making low-carbon and carbon-negative cement accessible across the cement and concrete industries, announced the appointment of Filiberto Ruiz and Alan Wessel to its Board of Directors, and Brian Chapman, PhD, as Director of Technology.
The three appointments bring together deep experience in cement manufacturing, concrete commercialisation, and biocement technology, as Prometheus Materials advances the commercial scale-up of ProZERO™. The product is a concentrated GWP-reducing supplemental blend designed to replace supplemental cementitious materials (SCMs) such as fly ash and slag. Prometheus technology is already being deployed in real-world projects for six of the datacenter hyper-scalers, demonstrating its ability to bring low-carbon – and carbon-negative – cement technology into existing concrete production at commercial scale.
"Prometheus has reached a stage where scaling successfully requires more than a strong technology. It requires a deep understanding of how this industry operates," said Loren Burnett, President, CEO and Co-founder of Prometheus Materials. "Filiberto, Alan, and Brian bring complementary experience across cement, concrete, and materials science – from technical validation and production to customer adoption and repeat use."
Filiberto Ruiz brings nearly four decades of cement and construction materials leadership. He previously served as President and CEO of Votorantim Cimentos North America, and earlier served as President and CEO of Holcim US and Aggregate Industries US. He has also chaired the Portland Cement Association and was a Member of the Executive Board of the National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA), giving Prometheus additional experience at the highest levels of cement manufacturing, industry partnerships, and market adoption.
"The cement and concrete industries are being asked to meet competing demands at once: Build more, use more cement, lower carbon, and do it within existing operational and economic realities," said Ruiz, Chairman of the Board of Prometheus Materials. "Prometheus offers a practical path to do all four at scale."
Alan Wessel brings more than 35 years of construction materials experience, including leadership of Thomas Concrete's U.S. operations and senior roles at Vulcan Materials Company. Alan also served on the Executive Committee and was a Board Member of the National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA).
His background spans ready-mix operations, manufacturing scale, customer adoption, and the commercialisation of new construction materials.
"The question is no longer simply, 'Does the science work?' It's how do we turn this into a significant construction materials business?" Said Wessel. "Low-carbon concrete is moving from a sustainability specialty toward a mainstream ingredient, and Prometheus is at exactly the stage where disciplined commercialisation and execution can make the difference."
Brian Chapman, PhD, joins Prometheus with deep experience in materials science and novel cement technologies. Previously with Biomason, Chapman has helped advance their first-of-a-kind biocement technologies from research through pilot and full-scale production.
Together, the appointments significantly strengthen Prometheus across the interconnected disciplines required to bring a new cement technology to scale: Materials science and technical performance, cement-industry integration, and real-world concrete commercialisation.
