JSW group will soon start construction of a proposed 2.4 million t cement plant in West Bengal.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is set to lay the foundation stone of the plant in Salboni on 6 January.

JSW Steel is setting up the plant on 134 acres of land. 294 acres had to be directly purchased, whilst the remaining was government land, which was directly transferred to JSW.

The cement project is predicted to be ready for commissioning by the end of 2016. The JSW group acquired the land almost seven years ago for their proposed mega integrated steel cum power project at Salboni. The proposed 10 million t steel plant at Salboni has remained stalled however due to lack of iron ore linkages.
