Hungarian cement producer, Duna-Dráva Cement has invested HUF7 billion (around US$25.7 million) to improve the environmental performance of the Vác cement plant. The two-year investment saw the installation of a new bag filter system at the plant, replacing the existing ESP filter and reducing dust emissions from the plant.
Current European regulations limit dust emissions to 20 mg/m3. The new bag filter reduces Vác's dust emissions to less a third of that limit. Other upgrade work has included the replacement of the existing calciner and the two lower cyclone stages, the installation of a bypass system, and the replacement of the main kiln drive.
Duna-Dráva Cement is a joint venture between German based building materials companies, HeidelbergCement Group and SCHWENK Zement KG. The company operates two cement plants: the Vác plant in Pest County to the north of Budapest, and the Beremend plant in Southern Transdanubia in the south of Hungary, close to the Croatian and Serbian borders.
