The large quarry near Shoreham closed 25 years ago, but still dominates the landscape.
A group called the 'South Down Project' now want to build over 2000 homes and businesses on the site, at a cost of £1.3 billion pounds.

An interim report detailing the UK cement industry’s environmental performance in 2011 has been published, indicating that improvements have been made.
The UK Government announces plans to boost infrastructure whilst the MPA calls for cement industry energy cost support.
“The UK cement industry’s environmental performance continues to exceed the sector plan targets it has agreed with the Environment Agency ” said Dr Pal Chana, Executive Director of the Mineral Products Association.
