In an unprecedented effort to curb the global waste crisis, Geocycle announced it has reached the figure of 12.6 million t of waste managed and transformed into resources used for cement manufacturing, aiming to build progress for people and the planet in the countries where it operates.
This volume of waste, which otherwise would have ended up in landfills or polluting oceans, was reintegrated into the industrial value chain through co-processing technology. Thanks to this work, more than 39% of the thermal energy used by its parent company, Holcim– a global leader in sustainable construction – already comes from circular sources prepared by Geocycle, marking a decisive step toward its net-zero goal.
Regional leadership and strategic alliances
The deployment of infrastructure and innovation in the region has been the engine of this growth. In 2025, Geocycle transformed nearly 1 million t of waste into usable resources for Holcim's cement manufacturing in Latin America. This allowed for a reduction in the use of non-renewable natural resources: 30.1% of the thermal energy used came from these materials, avoiding the emission of 1.1 million t of CO2.
To put it in perspective, this environmental impact is equivalent to avoiding the emissions generated by more than 230 000 gasoline vehicles driving for an entire year. This operational success is supported by strategic alliances with leaders from various industries who have trusted Geocycle to close their consumption cycles:
- Consumer goods: Collaborations with giants like Nestlé and PepsiCo for the management of post-consumer packaging waste and plastic neutrality.
- Agricultural sector: Specialised programmes for the responsible management of agrochemical containers and biomass.
- Municipal management: Critical projects such as the mechanised sorting plant in Guayaquil, Ecuador, which doubled the lifespan of the local landfill.
Geocycle has the firm purpose of living in a world where nothing is wasted and the ambition to be a key player in the transition toward circularity. This transcendental goal will be possible thanks to significant infrastructure investments the company will make in the region leading up to 2030, totalling $125 million. Its strategy is governed by the highest safety and risk management standards, guaranteeing the integrity of its people and communities at every stage.
"Reaching the figure of 1 million t of managed waste is not just an operational achievement; it is proof that in Latin America we are leading a true circular revolution. With this installed capacity, we are not only solving a critical waste problem for cities and industry, but we are also accelerating the decarbonisation of our sector," stated Luis Rivas, Head of Geocycle Latin America.
A new identity for a waste-free future
This operational record coincides with a strategic transformation of the company. To reflect this new era of impact and modernisation, Geocycle has officially presented its new brand identity, symbolising the agility and technology with which the company is closing consumption cycles worldwide.
"Our new brand identity reflects this evolution: we are more agile, more technological, and more determined than ever to build a future where nothing is wasted," Rivas pointed out.
With more than 10 000 clients worldwide and a network of 75 specialised facilities, Geocycle reaffirms its role as the primary partner for governments and private companies to transform the challenge of waste into an opportunity to build progress for people and the planet.
