Cemex has inaugurated a new distribution facility in Spain for white cement and other building materials. The distribution centre is located in Rubí, Barcelona, strengthening Cemex’s presence in Cataluña and enhancing its services and product offerings to customers in the region. Cemex operates a number of concrete and aggregates plants and distribution facilities in the area, in addition to the Alcanar cement plant, which is the largest cement plant in Cataluña.
In April 2014, cement consumption fell by 15% y/y to around 180 000 t in Cataluña. On a positive note, production grew by 45.6% y/y and cement and clinker exports were up by 44.2% y/y to approximately 223 200 t.
Cement produced in Cemex’s Spanish plants will be distributed to the Italian market via Cementi Siciliani, which comprises a 4000 t storage facility in the Port of Augusta, Catania.
Cemex’s latest Sustainable Development Report reveals the company’s progress in meeting its sustainability goals, as it strives to meet the challenges thrown up by urbanisation.
