GCCA annual conference kicks off in Madrid with CEOs, industry leaders, and leading organisations including the UN, OECD, EBRD, and the global insurance industry trade body, the Geneva Association.

Industry leaders from across the global cement and concrete industry are gathering at the Global Cement and Concrete Association’s (GCCA) CEO Strategic Dialogue in Madrid this week to discuss the urgent global challenge to build more resilient and sustainable infrastructure and communities in a changing world.

Dr Dominik von Achten, President of the GCCA, and Chair of the Managing Board at Heidelberg Materials said: “Our world is getting more complex, not less, and as leaders of this essential global industry, we know the important role our materials will continue to play.

“The industrial-scale transformation is already underway, but we need decisive political leadership to truly unlock this important mission. Procurement rules as well as norms and standards need to reflect and accelerate the industry’s capabilities in decarbonisation and circularity.”

The GCCA’s annual event is now a key date in the calendar, bringing together the CEOs and leaders of the largest and most prominent cement and concrete companies globally, alongside other key partners and stakeholders across the supply chain. Over the course of the gathering, attendees are discussing topics including key policy and advocacy decarbonisation levers as well as mechanisms to help drive demand and supply for lower carbon materials.

Thomas Guillot, Chief Executive Officer of the GCCA, commented: “Since its inception, the GCCA has focused on addressing ways to decarbonise the industry, through identifying and commercialising new and innovative technologies, as well as sharing knowledge and best practice on a global level. Alongside this key priority, it is also vital that concrete’s critical role in helping to build the infrastructure of the future is recognised and supported through policy development and partnerships.”
