Indian producers release June shipment figures

The following companies have already announced June shipment figures (updates will be provided as we receive them):

  • Jaiprakash Associates has reported a massive 65% increase in June shipments y/y, at 1.33 million t.
  • Ambuja Cements Ltd also recorded a rise, at 1.69 million t – 6.2% higher than in June 2009. Production also rose in June, from 1.6 million last year to 1.7 million t.
  • ACC, meanwhile, has reported a 1.66% decrease in cement dispatches, at 1.78 million t from 1.81 million t in June 2009. Production matched dispatches this year, down from 1.8 million t in the same period last year. Production and dispatches are marginally down y/y for the January – June period at 10.94 million t (from 11.07 million t) and 10.88 million t (from 11.06 million t), respectively.

Meanwhile, Basant Kumar Birla, chairman of B.K. Birla Group, is reportedly keen to merge two of the group’s companies, namely Mangalam Timber and Mangalam Cement.  Mangalam Tmber makes fibre boards. The company suffered a loss of Rs.1.23 crore in FY09/10, and is keen for the merger to go ahead. Birla has given the move his blessing, but says the companies may choose to wait a few months before amalgamation.

 

Indian cement production

Cement production in India is forecast to increase by 10% this fiscal year, reaching 300 million t.

Cement prices set to fall in India

Cement prices in India are expected to drop 8 – 10% by the end of the week as producers feel the effects of weakening demand in the nation.
