Lafarge Canada Inc. has formed a new alternative fuels partnership with Van Houtte Coffee Services Inc. to utilise used K-Cup® packs at the Kamloops, BC plant. Some 70 000 lb of used K-Cup® packs will be burned as alternative fuel at the cement plant to reduce landfill waste and replace a portion of the plant’s fossil fuel use.
Van Houtte Coffee Services Inc is currently collecting K-Cup® packs from its commercial accounts in the BC interior and Lafarge is also welcoming the public to drop off used packs at the Kamloops plant located at 9750 Shuswap Road.
Bob Cooper, Vice President of Cement for Lafarge in western Canada, said: “As part of its worldwide Sustainability Ambitions to minimise fossil fuel use and their related greenhouse gas emissions, Lafarge is proud to be the recipient of used K-Cup® packs, which are helping manufacture a critical building material.”
