An experimental study has been undertaken in order to determine the correlations between the dynamic, shear and bulk properties of granules and the roller compaction process variable applied to make them.

Dry granulation by roller compaction is a routinely applied continuous process that converts fine powders that are difficult to handle into uniform granular products that flow freely and perform efficiently in subsequent manufacturing steps.

The advantages of roller compaction include modest capital investment, low running and maintenance costs, and high energy efficiency. It is particularly suitable for moisture or heat sensitive materials and those that require ultra-high containment.

Freeman Technology has partnered with Gerteis Maschinen + Processengineering to present a collaborative study that characterises dry granulates in a commercially relevant way and support the optimisation of roller compaction processes.
