Lafarge’s Aberthaw Works, Wales has held an open day to celebrate 100 years of operation. More than 200 visitors attended the event, where they were given a guided tour of the plant and a chance to meet employees to discuss their work at the site. The day also included an exhibition of the plant’s history and the changes it has undergone over the last century. The event concluded with a celebration for past and present employees, featuring speeches form Lafarge’s UK President, Dyfrig James, performances from comedians and famous Welsh rugby player, Phil Bennett.
“We are delighted that so many people took time out to come and help us celebrate our Centenary. Aberthaw Works has played a very important part in the local economy and communities of the Vale of Glamorgan for a long time. It was important to us to mark this milestone by opening up our doors for people to come onsite and find out more about our operation in the 21st Century,” said James Kirkpatrick, Works Manager.
“This Open Day was very important for the whole team at Aberthaw Works and gave us an opportunity to showcase the plant and to celebrate the people, past and present, who have made it a success,” he added.
