Limak Cement opens its Low Carbon Cement Mediterranean Terminal

Limak Cement has commenced operations at its Low Carbon Cement (LCC) Mediterranean Terminal in Iskenderun, Türkiye.

Developed in line with the company’s sustainability and high-quality vision, the new terminal will strengthen the international dispatch of Limak Cement’s high-performance products. Equipped with environmentally-focused, highly-automated infrastructure, the terminal entered operation on 19 July 2026 with its first shipment of low-carbon bulk cement to Italy.

Completed to strengthen our company’s presence in low-carbon production and export markets, the new terminal will enable us to deliver our high-performance products to markets worldwide, combining durability, high quality, and strong environmental attributes.”

Limak Cement developed the new terminal as part of its broader international market strategy, with a particular focus on Europe and countries across the Mediterranean Basin. In response to growing global demand for sustainable construction materials, the Limak Cement LCC Mediterranean Terminal is expected to improve the efficiency of export logistics while optimising operating costs.

Designed for an annual throughput capacity of approximately 500 000 t, the facility will initially handle the storage and export of low-carbon, high-performance bulk cement produced at Limak Cement’s Kilis Plant. Depending on future operational requirements and planning, export activities from the Sanliurfa Plant will also be supported through the terminal. The Limak Cement LCC Mediterranean Terminal has commenced operations with three silos and 7500 t of storage capacity. Once all phases of the project are complete, the facility will comprise eight silos with a total storage capacity of 20 000 t.

Advanced automation at the Limak Cement LCC Mediterranean Terminal is designed to minimise environmental impacts while enabling digital, loss-free, and real-time monitoring of dispatch operations. Cement transfer, from pneumatic conveying lines to air slides and screw conveyors, takes place within fully enclosed, sealed systems, preventing contact between the product and the external environment.

During silo filling, displaced pressurised air passes through high efficiency pulse-jet filters before clean air is released to the atmosphere. At the loading stage, telescopic double wall loading spouts and simultaneous dust extraction systems capture displaced dust-laden air under vacuum, preventing it from escaping into the surrounding environment. Level sensors at the ends of the loading spouts automatically stop the flow to prevent potential overfilling and dust generation. Together, these systems provide a cleaner and safer working environment while supporting product quality and the terminal’s sustainability objectives.
