1200 hectares of new green spaces will be created for the city of Zaragoza. CEMEX is taking part in the ‘Bosque de los Zaragozanos’ project, which is promoted by the city council.
The company will plant 800 Mediterranean forest trees, which will occupy one hectare of green space, with the aim of renaturalising industrial environments. They will be planted next February in a space very close to its Cuarte concrete plant, in the La Plana area (Zaragoza). "This collaboration reiterates CEMEX's commitment to environmental policy, within the framework of the Sustainable Development and Climate Action Goals," says Alfonso Conde, CEMEX's Director of Operations in Aragon.
In total, almost 40 companies have confirmed their involvement in this project, which aims to plant 700 000 trees, one for each inhabitant of the Aragonese capital, in plots and fields distributed throughout the municipal area of the city. This project represents a great collaborative initiative for sustainability that, over the next few years, will modify the city and its surroundings to create new green spaces and improve the health of the inhabitants of Zaragoza.
The project has five main objectives: improve health and increase biodiversity, reduce Zaragoza's carbon footprint and avoid global warming, advance in a greener city, promote the circular economy and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
