CIMPOR has successfully completed the installation of the new PYROROTOR combustion chamber at its Alhandra Plant, a key milestone in the modernisation of Kiln 7 and in the company’s energy transition process.
Developed by German company KHD, this state-of-the-art equipment — measuring 3.4 metres in diameter, 10 metres in length and weighing 146 t — will allow the replacement of fossil fuels with alternative fuels, enabling a thermal substitution rate of up to 80%. Its installation required a technically demanding operation, carried out using a 400-t crawler crane.
The new PYROROTOR combustion chamber is part of a wider structural upgrade of Kiln 7, which includes:
- Modernisation of the existing kiln to a production capacity of 3600 tpd;
- A new preheater tower with a five-stage cyclone;
- Installation of a PYROCLON calciner and the new PYROROTOR combustion chamber;
- A new clinker cooler;
- A new vertical raw mill.
This investment contributes directly to the reduction of CO2 emissions, fully aligned with CIMPOR’s decarbonisation goals and reinforcing the company’s commitment to the targets set out in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
