Lafarge Tarmac has published its 2014 Sustainability Report online. Dr Martyn Kenny, Sustainability Director at Lafarge Tarmac, said: “In creating construction solutions that are relevant to every aspect of the built environment, we recognise our responsibility to grow our business in a way that is good for people and the environment. We are transforming our business by thinking holistically about our operations, products and services; pushing the boundaries to help create more sustainable buildings and infrastructure.”
The report describes the company’s progress towards its commitments, including: the recruitment of 91 new apprentices, higher apprentices and graduate trainees; the launch of a new employee learning and development academy; cutting carbon emissions by 23%/t of product since 1990; more than 7.7 million t of wastes and secondary materials recycled in 2014; product innovations; carbon footprints provided on more than 3000 products.
Commenting on the progress made, Dr Kenny added: “We are proud of the progress we’ve made on our journey of transformational change and sustainability leadership as we work towards delivering our ambitious sustainability strategy by focussing on the issues that are of most importance to our stakeholders and our business.”
He added: “As well as reducing the carbon footprint of our own products, we are engaging early with customers to embed whole-life thinking and help them design and build more sustainable, low carbon buildings and infrastructure.”
