According to the Alliance for Low-Carbon Cement & Concrete, one regulatory change could transform Europe’s cement industry, reducing emissions and giving the EU a competitive edge globally: technology neutrality.
Low-carbon cements are blocked from the market by outdated industry standards that gatekeep market access. This prevents the growth of innovative, safe, and scalable low-carbon cements, leaving Europe trailing behind other regions on cement decarbonisation (including the US, Canada, and Latin America).
23 civil society organisations, industry associations, and think tanks have signed a letter calling on European Commissioners to give the EU a competitive edge and unblock low-carbon cements from the market. This letter comes ahead of a key technical working group on cement as part of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) implementation process on 24 October.
