Tarmac’s Dunbar Plant has raised £7000 for homeless people in Scotland through the Bethany Christian Trust, after providing land for the 4th annual abseil event at Barns Ness Lighthouse.
38 people, including staff and supporters from the Dunbar area, abseiled down the lighthouse to raise money for the charities many project for homeless people, including the winter night shelter in Edinburgh. The shelter runs for the six coldest months of the year and last year it helped nearly 700 people.
Oliver Curtin, interim plant manager at Tarmac’s Dunbar Cement Plant, said: “Yet again Bethany Christian Trust and its supporters have organised a hugely popular and successful abseil at Barns Ness lighthouse. It is fantastic that they have raised so much for homeless people across Scotland and we were delighted to be able to host this successful event on our land.”
Hannah Biddulph, fundraiser at the Bethany Christian Trust, said: “We are really grateful to Tarmac for giving us permission to use the lighthouse for the abseil. We had eight of our staff and volunteers taking part this year, alongside 30 other supporters, which meant we had some fantastic support. It has become one of our biggest fundraisers and we had some great fun and team spirit on the day. It is really rewarding to be working together to help eradicate homelessness in Scotland, providing essential services to those who need it most.”
