Cemex is participating in the construction of the major S7 Expressway in Poland by supplying over 400 000 m3 of concrete. The cross-country expressway connects the Baltic coast to cities such as Warsaw, Krakow and the Slovakian border region.

Improving traffic flow and road safety on the Koszwaly to Nowy Dwor Gdanski section of the S7 Expressway, over the Vistula River in northern Poland, involved the construction of a 920 m long bridge. The bridge is located over a depression of weak organic soul, which required thorough cleaning, preparation and reinforcement of the ground through the construction of special concrete piles manufactured at the construction site.

Cemex installed two mobile concrete plants onsite to better meet the project's needs. With and average daily production of about 1500 m3, reaching up to 2500 m3 in peak periods, these plants will allow Cemex to supply 410 000 m3 of concretes. Cemex is expected to supply over 1 million t of aggregates for the project.

Several technologies were required. Sliding technology is used to move the pre-finished structure 9f the bridge from the bridgehead to further supports, while overhang technology, which consists of independent concreting of segments on both sides of the cantilevered section of the bridge is also in place. High architectural concrete technology was used to shape the concrete elements of all exposed surfaces.

Exacting safety standards allowed the concrete work to be performed securely, even during snow-melt season, when the Vistula River reaches its highest levels and water partially floods depressed areas.

This is one of the key infrastructure road projects currently under development in Poland, and we are proud to play our part in it, said Slawomir Dobrowolski, Director of Cemex Poland Mobile Ready-Mix Plants. This project shows Cemex's ability to improve the quality and safety of our roads and, thereby, contribute to a better future.
