Cemex, in collaboration with Projekt O2, piloted a project to reintroduce native plants in the St. Juraj - St. Kajo quarry in Croatia, using drones to distribute and retain seeds in hard-to-reach areas.
Given the large areas needing seeding, Cemex organised a volunteer initiative to collect as many native seeds as possible. Drones will distribute these seeds to the test areas during the first autumn rains. Then, workers and companies will be able to use a digital application to monitor their plantings, track progress, identify suitable planting areas, and calculate their positive ecological footprint.
This project is part of Cemex’s Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs), which aim to rehabilitate 100% of Cemex’s quarries and enhance natural habitats after extraction activities.
