Lafarge Cement Ireland has celebrated 50 years of clinker and cement production at its Cookstown Plant. Responsible for producing substantial amounts of cement each year, the Cookstown plant employs almost 100 staff, both in Cookstown itself and at its cement terminal in Belfast. Regularly supporting charities such as the Niamh Louise Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support, the Cookstown business is an established member of the community.
Cookstown has continued to strengthen since the Lafarge Cement business was acquired by Aggregate Industries in 2015, as part of the global merger between Larfarge and Holcim. Heavy investment has been made in technology, including Geocycle co-processing capabilities, helping to minimise and repurpose waste.
“Fifty years is a significant milestone and follows the successful 60th anniversary celebrations that took place at our sister plant in Cauldon last year,” said Russell Larmour, Plant Manager at Lafarge Cement. “To mark the occasion, we are hosting a small open day where we are inviting veterans and family members for a tour of the plant and to view our exhibition".
