As part of its ’25 Renewable Energy Schools Project’, Italcementi’s Asia Cement Company (ACC) is installing 4 kW on-grid solar PV rooftops in 25 small and medium-sized schools local to the company’s three cement plants in Thailand. The project began in 2014 and will run through to 2016.
Four schools took part in the project in 2014, and last month Managing Directors Roberto Callieri and Nopadol Ramyarupa visited the Baan Phon Thong School, located near ACC’s Takli plant in Nakorn Sawan province, which was the first school in Takli district to install the solar rooftops, and the fourth in the project. The school’s director reported that the solar power reduces electricity bills by 80 – 90%, allowing the school to increase its operating budget by up to 25%.
