According to the Jakarta Post, PT Semen Indonesia Tbk is planning to construct a 1 million tpa cement plant in Myanmar worth US$200 million. Semen Indonesia would establish the plant with its partners in Myanmar, and the company plans to hold a 40% share in the joint venture in which it would invest around US$70 million. Building work is due to begin in early 2014, and the plant is scheduled to come onstream in 2017. The new cement plant will supply the market in Myanmar, as well as providing cement to neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Bangladesh.
