Taiwan Cement has announced the death of its Chairman and CEO, Leslie Cheng-Yun Koo, on 23 January. Koo was 62.
According to local media reports, Koo fell down a flight of stairs, while attending a wedding at the Regent Taipei. Despite being rushed to a neighbouring hospital for treatment, he died from his injuries.
The board has named Nelson An-Ping Chang, a non-executive director of the company and Koo’s brother-in-law, to the role of chairman.
“All directors of the company express the deepest sorry for his death and convey their deepest condolences to the family of Mr Koo,” TCC said in a statement.
“The board hereby expresses its most sincere appreciated to Mr Koo for his tremendous contributions in leading the company and its subsidiaries in the past.”
According to the board, Koo’s death in not expected to have any “material impact on the operations of the group” with Chang telling reporters that “the industry outlook for the overall cement industry [in 2017] will be definitely better than 2016.”
