Zuari Cement holds road safety week

World Cement,

Zuari Cement, part of the Italcementi Group, held a Road Safety Week at its Chennai grinding unit in order to increase awareness and share best practice. The Indian cement producer implements safety policies and initiatives according to the motto: ‘Safety…a way of living’.

The road safety campaign was launched at Zuari Cement’s truck parking yard complex, attended by the Dy. Superintendent of Police, Ponneri, and Inspector of Police, Minjur. The plant’s head, Mr Venkataraman Subramaniam, spoke at the event, outlining the company’s road safety initiatives and advising the Transport Support Community, which includes drivers, cleaners and supervisors, to be aware of potential accidents and safety hazards in all spheres of life.

Drivers took part in a CPD awareness programme and had their eyes tested at a free eye camp set up at the Zuari Safety Training Centre. Where problems were detected, drivers were provided with treatment and support.

Zuari Cement has a cement production capacity of 6.2 million t. In November 2013, the company announced that it was increasing its market reach in Maharashtra with the construction of a new 1 million tpa cement grinding plant in Solapur. The grinding plant is due to begin operating in 2Q15.
