Chinese company Xinle Shipbuilding has been awarded a contract from an unnamed Italian company for a 6700 t bulk cement carrier. The company has said that the ship will offer environmentally friendly and efficient loading and loading of cement with minimal dust. The cement will be discharged pneumatically.
Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding Group Co. Ltd specialises in chemical tankers and LNG carriers, exporting mostly to European markets such as Italy and the Netherlands.
World Cement recently published information from BIMCO showing that more ship owners than ever before are scrapping their ships. In the dry bulk segment, 25 Capesize ships were scrapped in 2014 and in the first four months of 2015, 52 Capesizes were sold for demolition. Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO, Peter Sand, says: “The high amount of Capesize demolition will benefit the segment. Although increasing scrapping was expected, the actual development exceeded BIMCO’s expectations. This could have a positive impact on the market.” The trend is also being seen, though to a lesser extent, in Panamax, Handymax and Handysize ships.
