According to local press, Siam Cement Group (SCG) plans to invest US$400 million in a new cement plant in Mawlamyine, Myanmar. The facility will have a capacity of 1.8 million tpa and will feature a waste-to-energy system. It is scheduled for completion by mid-2016.
SCG is continuing to strengthen its presence in the ASEAN region through a series of investments and capacity expansions. Among these projects are a 1.8 million tpa plant in Indonesia that is expected to start-up in mid-2015, increasing its cement production capacity in Cambodia by 900 000 tpa, and a 1.8 million tpa plant in Laos that is due to begin operating in 2Q17. In 1Q14, the group’s cement and building materials division reported a 10% y/y rise in sales revenue.
