Australian cement maker, Adelaide Brighton, has signed new gas and electricity contracts in South Australia. The contracts cover the supply of electricity to the Birkenhead and Angaston cement plants, as well as the Klein Point quarry.
Electricity will be supply by Infigen Energy Ltd, an ASX-listed energy company, specialising in renewable energy. Infigen currently has 557 MW of installed generation capacity in New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia, with an additional 113 MW under construction.
The company has three operating wind farms in South Australia: Lake Bonney 1, 2 and 3 with a combined installed capacity of 278.5 MW.
Gas will be supplied to Adelaide Brighton’s South Australian operations by Beach Energy Ltd, an Adelaide-based oil and gas E&P company.
According to Adelaide Brighton, the new agreements will allow the company to focus on energy efficient and sustainable operations in South Australia.
“The new agreements with Beach and Infigen provide our South Australian operations continued certainty of energy supply and competitive prices, and underpin our leading position in this important market,” said Adelaide Brighton, Martin Brydon.
