The Philippine’s Department of Trade and Industry has made assurances that the supply of construction materials will meet demand in Capiz province, as reconstruction efforts in the wake of Typhoon Yolanda continue. According to Capiz Trade and Industry Provincial Director, Ermelinda Pollentes, manufacturers of building materials such as cement, plywood, steel bars and nails, have ramped up production to meet the high consumption levels.
“Local retailers forecast that the consumption of cement for the months of April, May and June alone will reach 915 000 bags,” stated Pollentes. Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya is in communication with cement producers in the region regarding the need to produce sufficient volumes to meet the high level of demand.
The Capiz Department of Trade and Industry is monitoring prices to ensure that there are no unreasonable increases. Meanwhile, meetings have been held with local retailers of construction materials in Roxas City to make sure that no bottlenecks in the supply chain arise and transport companies, such as Moreta Shipping Lines, have been asked to allocate a section of their cargo area to construction materials.
