Dangote Cement plans a second cement plant in the Republic of Congo

Dangote Cement is planning a second cement plant in Congo, according to reports in the press. The 1.5 million tpa plant was announced following a meeting between Aliko Dangote and Congo’s President, Denis Sassou Nguesso. It is said the investment is value at more than US$292 million and that the project will create over 650 jobs. The plant will be operational by 2016.

Dangote’s first venture in the country is due to be completed this year. The US$350 million, 1.5 million tpa cement plant in Madingou was listed among the five new Dangote Cement plants due to be completed this year. Together, the two plants will reduce Congo’s reliance on imports and enable the country to become a net exporter of cement, in addition to providing other benefits such as boosting economic growth, development, job creation and income creation.
