PPC appoints new CEO

South Africa’s biggest cement producer, PPC, has appointed a new CEO after Ketso Gordhan resigned in September. Darryll Castle comes to PPC from the mining industry and has experience working across Africa in countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Angola and Tanzania. His appointment meets the Board’s previously announced target of choosing a new CEO prior to the January AGM.

PPC recently announced that four of its board members would be stepping down, to be replaced by six new board members, following shareholder disquiet over Gordhan’s resignation and the subsequent public back and forth in the media. Since then, rival cement company AfriSam has proposed a merger between the two companies, giving Castle plenty to consider when he takes up his new position on 12 January.
