Dangote Cement’s 1.5 million t plant in Zambia will begin operations by the end of the month, according to reports. The US$400 million plant in the country’s Copperbelt region was delayed by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency permit and heavy rains, but is now prepared to begin production within the next two or three weeks.

“(T)he rainy season this year has been very intense, which has given us a lesson to protect ourselves next time we are in operations. So by and large, we are pushing and the team will try and deliver the factory by the end of this month; our power is already on so we are making good progress,” Mr. Dangote told the Lusaka Times.

Dangote Cement plans to build another identical plant in Chilanga. Sinoma has been identified as the most likely contractor for this project.
