Libyan Cement Co. (LCC) has begun the process of restarting production at its plants in Benghazi, Libya, according to local media reports, a process that could take around a year.
“In March/April 2016, the Benghazi cement factories were caught up in the battles between the Libyan National Army and militia groups opposing them,” the company said in a statement. “Heavy fights between these two groups caused major damage to LCC premises.”
According to LCC, the damage will require an investment of tens of millions of euros to repair. The project will involve making the site safe, sourcing and importing parts and supplies, finding skilled construction workers, and restoring infrastructure that supplies with plant with electricity and gas.
“Already orders are being placed and plans for making the site safe are well advanced,” LCC said.
