According to reports from local press, the Angolan government has announced funding worth US$116 million for the Nova Cimangola cement plant. The investment will be used to increase the plant’s production capacity. This will help to maintain the supply of cement to the domestic market and lower prices.
Last month, the Fábrica de Cimento do Kwanza Sul began operating following a four-year construction phase. The new plant is said to have a clinker capacity of 4200 tpd.
Lafarge will transfer its shares in its Nigerian and South African businesses into Lafarge WAPCO Nigeria Plc, which will then be renamed Lafarge Africa Plc. The new business will have a cement capacity of 12 million tpa.
