Atlas Copco has been listed in the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World index for the ninth time. The company ranks 23rd in the list and first overall in the machinery industry.

“Atlas Copco has a presence in over 180 countries, and being recognised as one of the top sustainable companies in the world reflects our commitment to global sustainability practices,” said Jim Levitt, President of Atlas Copco North America LLC. “In the United States, we have a number of ongoing initiatives that ensure we remain a good corporate citizen and contribute to Atlas Copco’s global efforts.”

Atlas Copco’s sustainability initiatives include increasing customer energy efficiency by at least 20% between 2010 and 2020, reducing CO2 emissions, promoting access to clean drinking water, as well as actively working towards the elimination of corruption.

The 2015 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World index was presented at this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos. Companies are evaluated based on a number of KPIs relating to areas such as energy, waste and water productivity, safety performance and leadership diversity. Other firms that made the list include Siemens, GE and POSCO.

The 2015 index comprises 20 US companies, the highest in the index’s 11-year history. Canada, France and the UK follow with 12, 12 and 11 firms in the list, respectively.
