The PIB reports on cement prices and production in India

Cement production

  • Cement production decreased slightly y/y from 21.24 million t in October 2012 to 20.61 million t in October 2013 and production also saw a decline m/m from 21.01 million t in September 2013.
  • Total cement production from April – October 2013 was 144.5 million t.

Cement dispatches

  • Cement dispatches remained steady y/y at 19.82 million t, but decreased m/m from 20.34 million t in September 2013.
  • The total amount of cement dispatched stood at 140.08 million t from April – October 2013.

Wholesale price index (WPI) of cement in October 2013

  • The price index for cement and lime (wt. 1.38646) decreased from 170.3 in October 2012 to 164.8 in October 2013.
  • Grey cement (wt. 1.26347) saw a decline from 170.7 to 164.4 in October 2013.
  • White cement (wt. 0.03099) decreased slightly to 170.1 from 171.1 in October 2012.
  • The WPI for slag cement (wt. 0.07783) increased from 166.1 in October 2012 to 168.7 in October 2013.
  • The price index for lime (wt. 0.01417) rose to 166.1 from 164.3 in October 2012.

WPI inflation of cement in October 2013

  • Price index inflation for cement and lime decreased from 8.13 in October 2012 to -3.23 in October 2013.
  • WPI inflation for grey cement declined from 8.11 to -3.69 in October 2013.
  • White cement’s WPI inflation stood at -0.58, a fall from 8.29 in October 2012.
  • Slag cement also saw a decline in inflation from 8.42 in October 2012 to 1.57 in October 2013.
  • The inflation for lime fell to 1.1 from 11.54 in October 2012.
